Special Olympics District of Columbia
Tuesday, September 07, 2010

Dear Friend:

Welcome to the official website of Special Olympics DC.  As a supporter of Special Olympics District of Columbia, you are familiar with the life-enriching work we conduct on behalf of thousands of DC citizens with intellectual disabilities.  SODC provides the opportunity for some of the District’s most vulnerable citizens to challenge themselves, experience success and receive positive reinforcement for effort, with tangible rewards. SODC provides everything needed to deliver a high quality athlete experience. SODC programs transcend boundaries of gender, race, religion and financial status to make unique contributions to this traditionally underserved and overlooked segment of our community. With thousands of athletes, families, volunteers, donors and supporters, the programs of SODC touch 1 of every 5 families in the District of Columbia. SODC offers: Aquatics, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Golf, Soccer, Speed Skating, Tennis Track & Field, Volleyball, and Motor Activities Training Programs that address various levels of ability.

SODC athletes come from public schools, group homes, agencies and associations serving citizens with intellectual disabilities. Studies show that participation in Special Olympics improves quality of life, provides measurable, health-related benefits, and develops life skills that directly affect academic and employment achievement, increase self-esteem, dignity and self respect.

The challenge is great, but with your support of our efforts on behalf of some truly inspirational athletes, we are able to continue our important work.

Best Wishes,

Stephen A. Hocker
