Community Partnerships

Businesses, all five branches of the military, law enforcement agencies, trade associations, universities, private and public schools, and a variety of governmental and non-governmental organizations contribute valuable resource support to Special Olympics D.C. as community partners.

A community partner contributes essential services through a variety of ways:

  • Volunteers to work at the Summer Games, Fall Sports Classic, or Winter Sports Classic

  • Free or significantly discounted use of athletic facilities and fields

  • Budget-relieving in-kind donation of goods and services

  • Specialized support at competition events or fund raisers

  • Creating alliances that lead to additional financial and volunteer resources

Examples of some community partnerships include:

  • Catholic University

Provides use of its athletic facilities for the Summer Games, Fall Sports Classic, sports clinics, track and field qualifying events. Students volunteer at some of these events.

  • United States Navy

Responsible for recruiting and supplying all volunteers for four days of the SODC Bowling Championships. Spearheads the recruitment of military volunteers from all five branches for the Summer Games.

  • Chesapeake Region Volleyball Association

Funding for the purchase of uniforms and equipment; volunteers to work at the volleyball venue at the Summer Games; in-kind contributions of gifts for the athletes.
