Program Coordinators

Special Olympics District of Columbia needs individuals with strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to serve as Program Coordinators. Every school, organization, or agency that participates in Special Olympics D.C. is required to have one Program Coordinator.
This individual administers the overall Special Olympics program for their athletes and coaches, and acts as a liaison between Special Olympics D.C. and key individuals within their school, organization, or agency. Program coordinators are the main point of contact for the coaches and administrators within their respective accredited program. They are required to attend four meetings throughout the year, one prior to each sports season (Fall, Winter, Spring), as well as the Summer Games.
Key Responsibilities of Program Coordinators:
-
Submit Application for Accreditation
Schools, organizations, or agencies interested in participating in Special Olympics D.C. can submit an Application for Accreditation prior to the start of any sport season. All programs are provided FREE of charge by SODC.
-
Recruit athletes and coaches within their respective accredited programs.
Athletes must have a completed Application for Participation submitted to SODC before they begin training.
-
Distribute and communicate vital Special Olympics information to the appropriate individuals prior to the start of any specific sport season. This would include:
- Calendar of Sports Events
- Registered Training Program forms (RTP)
- Sport Participation Intent Declaration
-
Oversee the timely submission of forms required for participation in any sport offered by Special Olympics D.C.
-
An athlete at the beginning of the school year who does not have a current Application for Participation form on file with SODC, must have his/her parent or guardian complete the Fall Participation Waiver.
-
Distribute and submit to Special Olympics D.C. a Volunteer Class A form from all coaches or key volunteers who work directly with the athletes during training and competition
-
Attend the four Program Coordinators meetings held prior to the start of each sports season and the Summer Games
