History

Special Olympics District of Columbia was started in 1969 by the Downtown Jaycees and was registered in 1971 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Throughout its history, Special Olympics D.C. has tirelessly supported the health and welfare of its participants through quality sports programming. It remains as the sole provider of sports and fitness training, competitions, and health screenings for citizens with intellectual disabilities in the District of Columbia.
